Adventure Camping Safety Keys


Be Prepared

Planning of your trip should be done carefully. Make sure that your necessary camping equipments, vehicle and boat are in good and proper working condition. Don't forget to take the first aid kit and wet weather condition gear/things.



Drive Carefully

Pursue usual road regulations wherever you are driving. Watch for approaching traffic and pedestrians and share the road. Pull off the road earlier than stopping to capture photographs. Take exceptional care when driving on sand.



Take Care Near Water

Swim with tremendous vigilance. Creeks have out of sight dangers and speedy currents. National park beaches are not patrolled daily. People have been critically wounded or killed plunging into rivers, pools, lakes, and the sea. Take charge of your children when they are in and around water. Take additional care to stay away from marine stingers in tropical waters. Do not enter water at the places where the crocodiles may live.



Stay On The Track

You may end up nowhere if you leave the road or walking track. Take a map/route plan if possible and go after markers and signs vigilantly. Let someone accountable may know about your plans or route map in case you get lost.



Watch Your Step

Stay away from rock face edges and waterfalls. Overhang ends may fall down and rocks near waterfalls may be greasy. At all times stay behind protection fences to avoid tragedy.



Be Wary Of Wild Animals

Reside well back from, snakes, goannas, crocodiles, dingoes, feral pigs, cassowaries, cattle, horses and buffaloes. People get seriously injured or killed by wild animals. Be extremely cautious about forthcoming any injured animal, such as kangaroos or possums. They are expected to bite and scratch if you effort to touch or move them.



Never Feed Or Play With Wildlife

They may bite or scratch you when you try to play with them. Human foods may be dangerous to wild animals. They can turn into be destructive towards us when we fed them.



Avoid Bites, Stings and Scratches

Wear well protective clothes in order to avoid insect repellent so as to protect yourself from stings, scratches and insect bites, particularly bites from ticks. Never go around snakes and never ever try to irritate them.



Take Care Near Fire

Take charge of your children when they are near open fires. Always put the fire off with water, but not with sand. Sand retains heat and children have been harshly burnt when fires have been enclosed with sand.



Beware Of Bushfires

When there is a bushfire, follow the track to get to the nearest road, beach, lake or creek for protection. Large logs, a waterway or burnt ground can also provide protection in some situations. But do avoid areas of heavy fuel, such as deep leaf litter or thick vegetation, and stay as low to the ground where the air is coolest and contains the smallest amount of smoke. In high fire peril circumstances, walking tracks and other areas may be stopped up. It is fundamental for your safety to follow the directions on signs in these conditions. If you see a bushfire, please alert a park ranger or the police at the earliest possibility.



Be Sun-Smart

Wear a hat, shirt and sunscreen, yet on gloomy days, to steer clear of sunburn. Drinking water regularly will help you avoid dehydration.



Think Before You Drink


Even mountain streams/water of it can be polluted by giardia and any other organisms that can cause diarrhoea. Take your own supply of water if possible. If at all you have to use water from creeks or lakes, boil it for at not less then five minutes, clean it or treat it chemically before you drink it.



Take Care Of Your Property And Personal Safety

Thefts and assaults can take place in parks and forests as well as in cities. Take only little valuables with you do not put down valuables in parked cars, and in locked car when you leave it. It is desirable to walk in a group or within the sight of a group rather than alone.
