The Manhattan Project is one of the most transformative events of the 20th century. It ushered in the nuclear age with the development of the world’s first atomic bombs. The building of atomic weapons began in 1942 in three secret communities across the nation. As World War II waned in 1945, the United States dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan—forever changing the world.

Operating Hours:
Oak Ridge Visitor Center
The Oak Ridge guided bus tour includes: a guided tour of the X-10 Graphite Reactor, the K-25 History Center, and the Y-12 New Hope Center. The tour runs March to November. Dates & times vary from week to week. Contact the American Museum of Science & Energy for the latest information. Please note: Participants must be United States citizens and at least 10 years of age.

Access to the Hanford B Reactor is by tour only. Separate tours of the Historic Sites are also offered. Los Alamos Visitor Center
While there is currently no public access to the Department of Energy facilities in Los Alamos, walking tours are available in the town of Los Alamos. The Los Alamos Visitor Center is open Friday through Monday, 10 am to 3 pm.
